MAY 2017

The weekend in Assynt was a great success with a change of venue from Inchnadamph Lodge to Ullapool Youth Hostel. 13 members attended, all of whom managed to get to the summit of Conival on the Saturday, 10 then continued on to the top of Ben More Assynt. A big effort on a lovely day - Well done!

On the Sunday, 7 members enjoyed a splendid walk up Stac Pollaidh in glorious sunshine. There were excellent views from (nearly) the top – and none were brave enough to make the scramble to the actual summit.  Its popularity was reflected by the high numbers of other walkers.

The group was grateful for good weather as the previous week had been pretty horrible with snow, wind and rain - typical of the week before the May weekend now, it would seem!!!

June 2017

It has been decided to cancel the Auchallater to Loch Muick through walk. It is not cost effective to run the bus due to low numbers. The long midsummer days are ideal for extended outings so if you have a suggestion for an alternative walk, please reply to this email.

August 2017

Rannoch weekend, accommodation has now been booked for seven people – one of these beds has now become available due to a cancellation. Final payment will be requested soon. If others are interested, there is a possibility that further beds can be booked.  The plan is to stay at Tulloch Station hostel and get the train to Corrour Station on the Saturday and do one of the routes there depending on weather and train times (3 options).  An option is then to use the train again on the Sunday and do another route from Corrour or to walk in the local area of the hostel.

August 2017 - Club BBQ

Save the date at the moment, Saturday 12th August, BBQ dates in Hamish's garden.  Further information nearer the time.

December 2017

I know, a long time away, but some information attached about Christmas party nights at the Hilton, Coylumbridge.  Thoughts would be to go to the party night on Saturday 2nd December and potentially walk in the area on the Saturday or Sunday or both.

Based on 2 people sharing a room, for bed and breakfast and the party night the cost is £95 per person, deposit of £25 required to confirm space.  If you would like to attend the party night please let us know by end of February.

May 2018 Weekend

It may seem early but ideas and suggestions are already flowing for next May Weekend. One member has requested an island adventure, possibly Jura. The Tongue Hostel would be an excellent base and Tomintoul Hostel is another possibility. Get your thinking caps on and throw your ideas forward.

Chairperson Resignation

It is with regret that Brian Henderson has resigned from the post of Chairperson. He provided a letter of resignation on 11th April which the committee accepted. As a result, the remaining committee will share the responsibilities until a new Chairperson is elected. For various reasons, it may prove difficult to find a willing candidate for this post so the committee are keen to hear from any club member prepared to consider a committee position.

Brian will continue to be a club member and will join in with club outings.

The club and the Committee extends it’s thanks to Brian for his efforts during his term and for maintaining the Club Website.

Club Website

Brian Henderson has agreed to maintain the Club Website until alternative arrangements are made. If any club member has ideas or suggestions for future website management, please contact Allison or any other committee member. Brian has offered to assist in the smooth transition.
